The Best Magic Items for Warriors of Chaos in Warhammer the Old World
Want to take your Chaos army in Warhammer The Old World to the next level? There’s nothing like going through the Magic Item list and picking out the ones that truly make your heroes… well, heroes. Here are the Magic Items that are actually worth it, and at the end, you’ll find my top 3 picks.
I hope you find this useful.

Diabolic Splendour
This Chaos Gift gives a -1 penalty to be hit in the Shooting phase. 35 points.
It works well with the Daemon Prince and any lone character, but also with those who join a unit, as the penalty also applies to the entire unit in that case. Very solid choice.
Enchanting Aura
Another incredibly good Chaos Gift. The thing is, since it’s a Gift, you’ll have to choose—you can’t take them all. For 35 points, it forces enemies to Strike Last, not just those in base contact with the bearer but all enemies engaged in combat with them. It might seem like a small distinction, but in Warhammer The Old World battles, this little advantage can save your General.

Poisonous Slime vs. Talisman of Carrion Crow
Poisonous Slime grants Poisoned Attacks for just 15 points. It’s not a bad choice, a cheap option. It pairs well with a Chaos Hand Weapon that has Magical Attacks and Armor Piercing. But the Talisman of Carrion Crow also includes this effect for 45 points and gives Regeneration (5+).
With this Talisman available, I would never pay 40 points for the Crown of Everlasting Conquest just to get Regeneration alone.
Rod of the damned
A solid Bound Spell to guarantee another Magic Missile for 40 points. Specifically, it grants access to The Summoning from Demonology—2D6 Strength 4 hits. Great for clearing out support units.
Daemonic Plate Mail, 50 points
Daemon Princes are now considered Infantry, which means they can take this Magic Armor (only available to Infantry and Cavalry, so no slapping it on a Toughness 7 Dragon). It provides Full Plate Armour, something a Daemon Prince normally can’t get, plus +1 Toughness and +1 Initiative (useful against Elves or high-Initiative characters).
Crimson Armour of Dargan
Another viable option for the Daemon Prince, since it’s only available for Infantry and Cavalry. 40 points. It allows you to ignore the Multiple Wounds rule, meaning you’re safe from Cannons, Catapults, and similar threats.
I’m not sure if it’s better than the Daemonic Plate Mail, but both options seem strong and will depend on your opponent and playstyle.

My Top 3 Magic Items for Warriors of Chaos in Warhammer The Old World
3. Spell Familiar
For 15 points, it grants an additional Spell to your Sorcerer. In Warhammer The Old World, this is huge, as you can cast all the Spells you know unless the item’s description states otherwise.
2. Favour of the Gods – The Best 5 Points You’ll Ever Spend
Allows you to reroll one result on the Eye of the Gods table.
I take this on all my characters to reroll if I roll a 1, avoiding the dreaded Stupidity. You can take multiple copies, but remember—you can’t reroll a reroll.
1. Infernal Puppet – The Nightmare of the Magic Phase
My absolute favorite. For 50 points, it turns the enemy’s Magic Phase into pure hell.
It forces enemy Wizards to roll 3D6 for every casting attempt and discard the highest die, making Miscasts much more likely and Irresistible Force almost impossible.
But that’s not all: it also makes it much easier to Dispel their Spells, since their casting rolls will be significantly lower (assuming they even manage to cast anything at all).
The only precaution you need to take is ensuring the bearer isn’t engaged in combat during the enemy’s turn and keeping them within 24 inches of enemy Wizards.

Bonus: Icon of Darkness – The Best Standard for Warriors of Chaos in Warhammer The Old World
This Magic Standard costs only 20 points and gives a -1 penalty to be hit in the Shooting phase for the unit carrying it. You can even combine it with the Chaos Gift mentioned earlier for another -1.
An absolute gem.
And that’s it—these are all the Magic Items that are actually worth considering. If your army’s Magic Item breakdown hasn’t been covered yet, keep an eye on the blog. It’ll be up soon.
