🔹The Chracian Warhost | High Elf Old World
On this wonderful day, we’re analyzing the army of infamy of the High Elves of Chrace. A pretty elitist army, which says a lot considering it’s High Elves we’re talking about. Although White Lions are elite in any High Elf army, here we’ve got White Lions on steroids.
Is that the only new unit?
Not at all.
We even have a unit that becomes available in the regular High Elf army.

Composition and Army Rules of Chrace
Army rules: First, your archers and spearmen can gain Move Through Cover and Lion Cloaks. Honestly, I think it’s irrelevant.
Second, before deployment, this High Elf faction adds a difficult terrain feature between 8 and 12 inches outside the opponent’s deployment zone, 6 inches from any other terrain, with no limit on distance from the table center.
I’ll explain the third rule later when I describe the Woodsmen—it affects them directly.
Exactly like the Infamous Garrison of the Sea Guard, you need 33% Core units and you’re allowed 33% Rare Units instead of the usual 25%. They also grant access to a new Core unit created exclusively for this list.
Key differences include the ability to take a High Elf Prince and High Elf Archmage; in fact, you can take two of them at 2000 points.
This, of course, enables you to field Star Dragons, the big guys, the good ones.
Now, let’s break down the new units, which we classify as:
- Lion Characters
- Large Lions
- Medium Lions
- Small Lions
- Four-legged Lions

Improved White Lions: Lion Guard
The lion character is the Chrace Warlord, who can be a Battle Standard Bearer and can ride a Chief’s Chariot, which is basically a cheaper Lion Chariot. This Chief’s Chariot is only available as a character mount—you can’t buy it separately. Honestly, compared to other character options, he’s not that interesting and doesn’t offer much.
Moving down in size, we have the Lion Guard. Only one unit can be included, it’s Rare, and it’s elite infantry with a high price tag. Whether or not it’s worth it depends on your romanticism; personally, I think there are better choices in this army to fine-tune your 2000-point list.
What’s different about them compared to the usual White Lions of Chrace we all know?
- Closed formation instead of skirmish.
- Better hitting power: Furious Charge with Weapon Skill 6.
- Leadership 9 and Veteran rule, allowing re-rolls on all leadership tests, not just Panic.
- Something easily overlooked: they’re heavy infantry, so you can deploy them 4-wide to receive fewer attacks and still get rank bonuses.
- Unit champion can take up to 50 points in magic items instead of the usual 25.

In short, this unit hits extremely hard when charging with WS6, Strength 6, and Armour Penetration -3. The downside is, if they’re charged, their resilience is just like regular White Lions: Toughness 3 with a 5+ save. Even against shooting, they don’t hold up well, as the only improvement is their armour becoming 4+ against non-magical shooting due to their Lion Cloak.
In this infamous army, you can take one unit of normal White Lions of Chrace as Core for every 1000 points, and as many as you want as Special units.
Chrace Woodsmen: Mobility and Ambush
This is the Core unit specifically created for the Warhost of Chrace. If spearmen are already bad, when compared to these guys they pale in comparison:
- Minimum unit size is 5 models.
- Increased mobility (Skirmishers and Vanguard).
- Can have heavy armour and Lion Cloaks just like White Lions, and even bows.
- Their bows are Strengh 4 for only 1 additional point so, deppending on your strategy, they can be a good option (if your plan is marching and fighting every turn, the bows are still useless).
- They still hit with Strength 6 and -3 Armour Save. Keep that in mind.
One unit of Woodsmen can be Scouts and another can be Ambushers for just one point, which is quite interesting because this army allows you to add or subtract one after rolling the dice to determine if a unit enters by ambush. So they can reliably appear on turn 2 with a 3+.
They can’t carry a magic banner, and their unit champion can’t take magic items, but honestly, they don’t really need it.

Chrace’s Gift to the General Army: War Lions
Now, these are actual lions, like real-world lions.
Keep in mind, if you want to include them in the general High Elf army for Old World, you must include a unit of White Lion infantry from Chrace, which reduces their attractiveness. (I’ll write a post comparing the three elite infantry options of the High Elves soon and will link it below.)
Objectively, they’re expensive: 18 points for 1 wound, Toughness 4, with no armour save. The upside is their unit size can be as small as two, providing a redirector and war machine hunter for just 36 points.
- Good mobility: Movement 8, Swiftstride, Move Through Cover, and Vanguard.
- Good hitting power: 2 attacks, Weapon Skill 5, Strength 4, and Killing Blow. Not bad at all.
They aren’t the only interesting redirector in this army—since you can also take Giant Eagles (up to four at 2000 points).
