It’s very easy to find the Warhammer The Old World rulebook in PDF online.
The problem is that, at this point, it’s basically useless.
What rules do you actually need to play?
The rules of Warhammer The Old World are scattered across countless documents, and many of them contradict each other: rulebook, Arcane Journals, Ravening Hordes, later Arcane Journals, FAQs, errata, etc.
That’s the reason why I’ve been writing this section for months.

These blog posts are meant to help you understand how each of the associated rules actually works. Not just to explain them in a simple way, but also to explain what they really mean in practice and how they interact with other rules—something that Games Workshop doesn’t explain in any of its documents.
These are the kind of situations and nuances that can absolutely DESTROY your game if you don’t know them and your opponent does—or give you the decisive edge if you understand exactly how they work.
Here you’ll find every single rule that becomes tricky when you take a second look at it, each one with its own dedicated post.
Forget that stupid look on your face in the middle of an important tournament when someone tells you you’ve been playing a rule wrong for months.
Although, you do have another option.
Instead of reading 3-minute posts while you’re in the bathroom, you can spend hours watching games on YouTube where even “experienced” players often apply the rules incorrectly, hoping to pick something up.
The choice is yours.

Where can I find the Warhammer The Old World rules?
The rules for Warhammer The Old World are spread across multiple sources: the core rulebook, Arcane Journals, FAQs, and official errata.
The problem is that they’re scattered, constantly updated, and often contradict each other.
That’s why this guide brings together all the important rules, fully explained and organized in one place.
Por eso en esta guía tienes todas las reglas importantes explicadas y organizadas en un solo sitio.
Is the core rulebook enough to play?
Not even close.
While the core rulebook includes the main rules, many key clarifications are hidden in FAQs and later documents that directly change how things work on the table.
If you only rely on the rulebook, it’s very easy to play incorrectly without even realizing it.
What rules are most commonly played incorrectly in The Old World?
AFrom my experience playing with a lot of competitive players, these are some of the rules that cause the most mistakes:
- Cover
- Line of Sight
- Initiative in combat
- Parry
- Random Movement
- Ambushers and Scouts
In this guide, you’ll find detailed explanations for each of them so you can avoid common mistakes.
Is the Warhammer fantasy battles rulebook very different to The Old World rules?
Yes — even though the core of the game is similar, there are important changes that directly affect how it’s played:
- Charge mechanics
- Combat order (initiative)
- Combat resolution
- Certain special rules and keywords
If you’re coming from Warhammer Fantasy (like I was), it’s very easy to assume things still work the same way — and that’s where most mistakes come from.
That’s why in each individual rule post, I explicitly highlight the differences between Fantasy and The Old World.
Is this guide updated to FAQs and errata?
Yes.
All the explanations here take into account FAQs, clarifications, and how the rules are actually being played today.
The goal isn’t to repeat the rulebook — it’s to explain how the game really works on the table.
And every time Games Workshop releases new content, I break it down and update everything here.
