In The Old World, the Baggage Train is one of the four missions (officially called secondary objectives). You can find all of them described here.
How big is the Baggage Train?
It uses a 100×60 mm base.
Is the Baggage Train impassable terrain in The Old World?
No, and it isn’t difficult terrain either. It’s only dangerous terrain.
Does the Baggage Train block line of sight?
No. Models can see through the Baggage Train with no problem.
Warhammer the Old World Baggage Train: How do you deploy it?
Each player places one in their own deployment zone, more than 3″ from their table edge and outside of any terrain feature.
Ask your enemy if he has any ambushers unit so that you can place it properly 😉
What’s the objective / what do you do with the Baggage Train Old World?
You can control yours, control the enemy’s, and destroy the enemy’s.
How do you control a Baggage Train in The Old World?
The closest unit with Unit Strength 10+ (it does NOT have to be Core) controls it, as long as it’s within 6″, and it isn’t fleeing or subject to Stupidity.
How do you destroy an enemy Baggage Train?
A unit with Unit Strength 5+ moves into base-to-base contact with the Baggage Train during the Remaining Moves sub-phase. It successfully destroys it if, at the start of its next turn, that unit still meets all of this:
- It’s still in contact with the train.
- It isn’t in combat.
- It isn’t fleeing.
- It still has Unit Strength 5+.
And here are two important points:
First: it specifies that what you can destroy is the ENEMY’S (you can’t destroy yours so the enemy can’t burn it).
Second: the unit has to move into contact to destroy it during the Remaining Moves sub-phase because we have a wonderful rule called Reserve Move, which happens later in the Shooting phase—so it wouldn’t let us destroy the train. And we also couldn’t do it after an Overrun, a Reform, or a Pursuit.
Baggage Train the Old orld: How many points is it worth?
At the end of the battle, each one you control is worth 100 VP, and destroying the enemy’s is worth 250 VP.
You don’t get anything for controlling it during the battle—only who controls it at the end counts.
What model should I use to represent my army’s Warhammer Old World Baggage Train?
There’s no official model.
A lot of players are using a 3D print, others use a cart/chariot (many of them use the same base size), others do a conversion…
In any case, keep in mind that a unit can move over it and can even end up on top of the Baggage Train, so if you use a model to represent it, it can be awkward and cause issues during play.
For that reason, I recommend using an empty base with Blu-Tack to fix it to the table while the game lasts (without leaving a mark) so no one removes or moves it by accident.
Then you can place whatever cart/model you want on top without gluing it, so it doesn’t get in the way while playing. You can even magnetize the model so you can put it on and take it off easily.
